Scully Oil Company, a BP Branded Marketer servicing BP stations throughout Juneau, Sauk and Columbia Counties, presented a BP Fueling Communities grant donation of $3,250 to the Habitat for Humanity.  The BP Fueling Communities program provides grants to local organizations that are nominated by BP’s Branded Marketers to support the communities in which they do business.  Fueling Communities gives back to local organizations that support health, education, youth, food and housing to spread charity and goodwill.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that began in 1976.  Since 1976 they have served over 400,000 families.  Families who qualify must put in 500 hours of sweat equity in helping to build their homes, their income must meet the necessary standards and they will receive no interest mortgages.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Mauston, WI started in 2002 and services the Adams & Juneau counties.  The Habitat ReStore takes in donations of furniture, appliances, housewares, building supplies, electrical, plumbing and tools and it is all housed in 1200 sq. ft. of retail space.  There are a few regular employees working at the ReStore, but 70% of their employees are volunteers.  This allows for more money to go into the housing program.  At this point the Habitat ReStore has served 13 families with homes and there will be 2-3 more families served this year.

The donation to Habitat for Humanity ReStore has helped them to improve the store itself by painting the outside of the building and furnishing new signs to give the Habitat ReStore a better presence.

“This wonderful BP grant allowed us to bring our Habitat ReStore building up to a much higher standard and allows us to have a positive impact on the image of the Mauston Community”  Said Jim Abbs, ReStore Director.
